So many people ask where the inspiration comes from when I write lyrics. Is it about a person, situation or time in my life. Well here are some answers as I reveal the story behind the songs.
Behind The Lyrics – ‘Take Me Away’ - Album ‘Once More With Feeling’
‘Take Me Away is one of my favourite tracks on that album.
Everyone has their problems in life: mine were in constant turmoil at the time.
I met and married my first husband in 1961 - a person I didn’t love and didn’t really know. OK, he made me laugh: being on the road is a very lonely place. I’d reached my 21st birthday and thought I knew it all. Well I was 21, a fully grown-up lady. Was I Hell!
In retrospect, I married to spite my mother, who was possessive and poo-poo’d anyone who came near me. They were never good enough in her eyes. I wrote from Germany, where I was working, to tell her I was married; then the ‘you know what’ hit the fan!
It was a cruel, non-existent marriage and I needed every fibre of my beliefs to survive at the time. But heartache and despair generate emotion; and so ‘Take Me Away’ was born. Listen to the words.......
The whole story will be in my biography – warts & all.
Luv,
Jackie
