So many people ask where the inspiration comes from when I write lyrics. Is it about a person, situation or time in my life. Well here are some answers as I reveal the story behind the songs.

‘Lyrics’ ~ Fact or Fiction?’

Be like the bird who, halting in his flight on a limb so slight,
Yet sings, knowing he has wings...
(Victor Hugo 1802 - 1885)

Should I tell the story, paint a picture from my perceptions on life? Or perhaps let the imagination run free in riotous antithesis of reality? (Me!)

No. 1 ‘Somewhere In the World’

The very first song I co-wrote with TONY HATCH.

Living alone in my flat in Forest Hills, London I painted the lounge ceiling in a dark blue
colour that seemed great at the time. Only when I’d finished did I realise how bad it made me feel. Out with the brush: 4 coats of magnolia later, I felt a little lighter in myself.....

TONY posted me an acetate of the melody for a new song.
So there I sat, under the magnolia, with liberated thoughts: ‘Somewhere in the world there’s someone for me: someone to fulfil my need to belong and be loved.....’

TONY’s wife JEAN took down my dictation of the brand new lyrics over the ‘phone.
And ‘Somewhere In The World’ was born.
It maybe took me a couple of hours to write, inspired by magnolia?

Fact or fiction: it’s your choice............
